Strong password generator
Create strong, random passwords. They're generated on your device and never sent anywhere.
How to use the password generator
- Choose a length; 16 or more characters is a good default.
- Pick which characters to include. Turn on Avoid look-alikes if you'll type it by hand.
- Copy the password into your password manager.
What makes a password strong?
Length matters most. Each extra character multiplies the number of possible passwords. A random 16-character password using upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols has about 105 bits of strength, which would take far longer than the age of the universe to guess, even at billions of guesses a second.
The strength shown is based on how the password was generated, which is how security experts measure it.
Is it safe to generate passwords online?
With flipj, yes: passwords are created in your browser with its cryptographic random number generator, and never leave your device. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
Good password habits
- Use a different password for every account, and store them in a password manager.
- Turn on two-step verification wherever you can.
- Never reuse a password that appeared in a data breach.
